WHO IS BRIAN HOOSE?

HOMEOWNER, VETERAN, DEGREE IN URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING…

and, an independent thinking, Pro-Democracy (“We, the People…” are the government) Centrist Democrat.  I am not an ideologue.  I am not apart of any local political establishment clique.

I was raised by a single mom who worked in the private sector in the mills of Holyoke, and when no long physically able to do so, was a store clerk.

Unlike my opponent, I have worked in the private sector, first in the paper mills of Holyoke.

Unlike my opponent, I served in the U.S. Army, from 1968-71.

Later, I worked as a cook and chef, and as a Human Service worker for private sector service providers.  To supplement my income I did work in the Public Sector as a substitute teacher for 15 years, and a special needs teacher’s aid.  1994-95 I worked as a Neighborhood Facilitator, for the Community Partnership for a Drug Free Chicopee.  And, only for the last 8 years have I worked for the Commonwealth as a shift supervisor for the Dept. of Mental Retardation.

Early on, though poor and unconnected, I learned that I could impact the decisions of government.  My life experiences taught me to stand up for myself and for what I believed and knew was right, even though being right did not make you popular.  As such, early on I was labeled a maverick for not going along with the Party.  Because I came from the wrong side of the tracks, and did not know my place, I was labeled a trouble maker for having proven them wrong, and worse by getting things done that actually worked.
